Reshaping HR strategies in the New Normal

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The CoVID-19 pandemic saw businesses turned upside down as they scrambled to adapt to new levels of normalcy during the pandemic. Businesses slowly began to adapt to the new normal, and with this new normal came a new series of challenges. In the face of a crisis like this, innovative HR strategies that adhered to mandatory HR statutory compliance would have to be implemented to stay ahead of the curve and capitalize on the new normal. Some of these strategies include:

Revamping and Reskilling the Workforce

The demand for a new workforce has never been greater. Organizations have had to adapt to new standards and systems during the pandemic quickly. This situation has forced them to look for new employees with certain skill sets and credentials that align with these new working conditions. There is a greater emphasis on these specialized skillsets at short notice that will enable these new employees to adapt more easily to this new environment. Workforces have also been revamped with organizations working with leaner teams who are adept at those specific skillsets. Outsourcing this process to the best staffing services can go a long way in easing the burden that organizations face in looking for new hires.

Reliance on Virtual Environments

Training and development are key processes that directly affect an organization’s performance, output, and growth. Given that organizations have had to pivot, many critical training modules have been shifted to virtual spaces. These environments have also become spaces where informal interactions happen between employees and teams. Organizations need to provide platforms and effective HR information systems and software to facilitate this. This will help in employee engagement, building cohesion between teams and employees, and helping to keep up employee morale during tough times with the help of activities and initiatives.

Efficiency vs. Flexibility

Many companies had to deal with the stress of adaptation to the new normal. Given that these are relatively uncertain times for companies, flexibility must be the new buzzword. Organizations may have to streamline certain business processes that are key to their company. These restructured processes must be built to adapt to adverse circumstances. While most organizations would have built their workflow processes with the idea of efficiency and quality, the pandemic has disrupted the way these processes work. Therefore, these organizations have to come up with flexible strategies that withstand adverse changes in short periods of time. A 2019 survey by Gartner revealed that 55% of organizational redesigns focused on streamlining roles, supply chains, and workflows, all to increase efficiency. While this approach was responsible for efficient workflow, it also had its drawbacks. These systems had no flexibility to respond to disruption, while resilient ones were able to course-correct easily.

Outsourcing

Outsourcing is another effective method to ensure that key tasks are taken care of without the stress and effort that come along with them. India is the leading country to outsource to, according to Tholons Top 50 Digital Nations and A. T. Kearney Global Services Location Index of 2019. For instance, a payroll outsourcing firm can be a blessing during a remote working situation. The firm can effectively handle a client’s payroll-related needs, allowing them to focus on other aspects of a business that could be essential to its survival during a pandemic.
